Home Why Doris Physio Led Care

The benefits of applying a physio mindset

Most Doris Jones clients don’t have physiotherapy on a regular basis. But what every client has, at every visit, is care that’s planned, monitored and reviewed with a physio mindset.

You may wonder why being “physio-led” is something to shout about in a homecare context, so here are some of the reasons we think it’s not just important, but actually quite revolutionary.

“Physiotherapy enables individuals to maximise their quality of life, optimise their health and wellbeing and increases their ability to live independently.”

Slowing deterioration

Taking a physio-led approach can help slow or prevent a decline in physical and cognitive abilities, maintaining a person’s independence and quality of life. It is especially effective at helping reverse the deterioration in ability following a crisis or hospital admission.

Enhancing resilience

It supports self-management and trains families and carers to deliver care safely and effectively. This helps prevent ill health and crisis events, minimising periods of high health and social care need.

Preventing falls

Approximately 50% of people aged over 80 experience at least one fall each year. Applying physio principles to care planning, by incorporating tailored exercise and education, can reduce the likelihood of falls and fractures, keeping people living independently and reducing hospital admissions and GP appointments.

Promoting independence

It empowers people to be independent, preserving or restoring their integration in the community and thereby reducing the risk of social isolation. It focuses on outcomes that reflect personal preferences and goals, delivering better outcomes for individuals and their carers.

Reducing long-term care costs

Early intervention can delay or prevent the need for expensive care packages or residential placements, providing significant cost savings for families. By contrast, waiting for a crisis can limit care options, potentially proving both stressful and more costly.
